Statement regarding LockBit claims

Earlier this morning we became aware of tweets from LockBit, the cyber-criminal gang, claiming that they had compromised Darktrace’s internal security systems and had accessed our data. Our security teams have run a full review of our internal systems and can see no evidence of compromise. None of the LockBit social media posts link to any compromised Darktrace data. We will continue to monitor the situation extremely closely, but based on our current investigations we are confident that our systems remain secure and all customer data is fully protected.

Darktrace, the world leader in AI technology for cyber defense, has today announced that Metropolitan Pathologists (MetroPath) has deployed its disruptive AI technology to detect cyber-threats at their earliest stages, while providing comprehensive visibility of its entire network infrastructure.

With new, automated, fast-acting attacks targeting the healthcare industry every day and bypassing traditional defenses, we knew we needed to take a fundamentally different approach to cyber security,” commented Jimmy Gelhaar, Director of IT, MetroPath. “Darktrace’s AI technology has proven instrumental in providing visibility of devices we didn’t even know we had on our network. Armed with the Enterprise Immune System, we can now detect and mitigate in-progress attacks before they escalate into a crisis.”

As the oldest private pathology lab in the State of Colorado, MetroPath has been instrumental in developing, advancing and innovating anatomic pathology services for over one hundred years. With its network overseeing the critical medical information of thousands of individuals, MetroPath considers safeguarding this sensitive patient information a mission-critical business priority. Of particular concern are phishing attempts that can trick employes into inadvisable actions, and brute-force, fast-spreading attacks such as ransomware that can wreak havoc on a network in mere minutes.

To meet these challenges, MetroPath deployed Darktrace’s Enterprise Immune System into the heart of its network. The AI algorithms started self-learning the normal ‘pattern of life’ of every user and device on the network and were able to quickly detect a threatening anomaly within the network: a workstation was making an unknown data transfer to a remote location in the middle of the night. Darktrace alerted the security team instantly, as the time, size, and destination of the data transfer deviated from the network’s expected ‘pattern of life’. Because of Darktrace’s early threat detection capabilities, MetroPath was able to instantly remediate the situation before any damage could be done.

Healthcare organizations are particularly vulnerable to fast-moving attacks like WannaCry,” commented Rob Sass, Managing Director, North America. “Although there is no silver bullet for cyber security, companies are turning to crucial AI technology that is capable of identifying and neutralizing these automated attacks. True to its long-standing tradition of being an innovator in its field, MetroPath is leading the charge in adopting pioneering AI technology to stay abreast of this escalated cyber climate.”
