About the Customer

The company was in the process of deciding how AI should be used within the company.

The customer — referred to here as “the company” — is a UK-based provider of housebuilding, construction, and property development services, delivering residential and commercial projects across the UK. As the organization continued to modernize its operations and expand its digital footprint, maintaining the security and resilience of its IT environment became increasingly important. The company partnered with Darktrace to gain enhanced visibility across its network and systems, helping it proactively detect cyber threats, protect sensitive business information, and support secure growth in an evolving threat landscape.

Customer Challenge

The company was testing the feasibility and safety of using different AI platforms. Adding to the complexity, different departments across the business had varying levels of enthusiasm for AI adoption.

The company needed a reliable way to understand how AI was actually being used so that it could make informed decisions about which platforms to pursue and how much to invest, rather than relying on differing departmental opinions.

Partner Solution

The company used Darktrace / SECURE AI to gather data on AI usage across the business. The data provided insights into accessibility for employees, session frequency, and usage trends across different tools. The company also used / SECURE AI to experiment with day-to-day adoption and to explore how best to integrate an AI-visibility tool within its security platform.

Darktrace / SECURE AI is a SaaS platform, hosted on AWS and running as containerized workloads on Kubernetes, that gives enterprises unified monitoring and detection across the enterprise AI services used throughout their business. The platform ingests generative-AI telemetry from a wide range of enterprise AI tools — including Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft Copilot, Claude Enterprise, ChatGPT Enterprise, and SASE platform logs — and applies Darktrace’s Adaptive AI to detect behavioral anomalies across AI interactions. For AWS, SECURE AI integrates natively with Amazon Bedrock in the customer’s tenant, analyzing model-invocation logs from the foundation models available through it (such as Amazon Nova and Anthropic Claude). The SECURE AI policy-compliance engine calls the Amazon Nova Lite model via the Bedrock Converse API to summarize uploaded policy documents into compliance criteria and evaluate whether prompts comply — with those documents stored in Amazon S3. The platform is secured with standard best-practice AWS-native controls.

Results and Benefits

Session-frequency data pulled from / SECURE AI helped inform conversations about where to invest in premium licenses for the employees making the most use of AI, enabling more grounded discussions around AI spend. Usage trends from / SECURE AI also highlighted how different tools were being used, giving the company a basis to reconsider which tools to pursue where some were being used far less than others.

Through day-to-day use, the company also found that features such as the user-management settings could be useful in understanding how less-privileged users experience the products.
