Darktrace / SECURE AI will be a part of the cybersecurity program’s DNA within Lamons.”

David Green, Senior Vice President of IT, Lamons

Scaling AI adoption with confidence

Like many manufacturers, Lamons saw AI move quickly from experiment to everyday use. Employees were finding ways to increase their productivity to improve customer service with tools such as Copilot and Claude. The company was exploring AI agents for self-service interactions, semi-autonomous request-for-quote workflows, and even lead generation connected to Salesforce.

While the board wanted to move quickly with AI adoption, the IT and security teams knew they needed to understand the risk and keep company information confidential. Introducing new AI tools required a clear view of how employees were using them and where the tools showed up in daily work.

That need for visibility became critical when David Green, Senior Vice President of IT at Lamons, and the company’s general counsel began drafting an AI usage policy. They had a general policy in hand, but paused before putting it into effect. Without evidence of real employee activity, they risked creating rules that sounded right but could have limited productive use.

Darktrace / SECURE AI replaces assumptions with evidence

Lamons joined the Darktrace / SECURE AI early adopter program to understand what was happening across its AI environment. The product gave the security team visibility into who was using which tools and what they were doing with company data.

Immediately, we became privy to the information that we’d been lacking all along: who is using what within our organization and what are they doing with the data.”

— David Green, Senior Vice President of IT, Lamons

That visibility gave Lamons a stronger foundation for governance. Instead of treating policy as a static set of restrictions, the team could review actual use, identify productive workflows, and decide where controls or policy changes were needed.

Employee behavior changed the policy conversation

The findings challenged Lamons’ original assumptions. Employees in shipping, sales, and global supply chain were using generative AI to improve how they worked. Rather than seeing a workforce that needed to be stopped, the security team saw people using the technology to become more effective for their customers, and a policy that could have slowed that progress.

Everybody was leveraging AI in such a way to better themselves. The policy we were potentially putting in place could have inhibited this newfound higher level of productivity.”

— David Green, Senior Vice President of IT, Lamons

Lamons is using these insights to inform its AI usage policy and executive conversations about adoption. Seeing healthy, appropriate use also helped put the security team more at ease, allowing discussions about further AI investment to move forward with less friction. That insight changed the policy conversation: instead of defaulting to broad restrictions, Lamons could build governance around real behavior and support responsible use where AI was already helping employees become more effective.

The business impact is clear even without quantified metrics: governance is now shaped by real activity; leadership has stronger input for investment decisions, and security can help enable adoption rather than defaulting to broad restrictions.

Governance becomes a continuous practice

For Lamons, AI governance is no longer a one-time policy exercise. Green and the cybersecurity team plan to keep using Darktrace / SECURE AI insights to stay current on AI usage, support compliance, and understand when policy should change to reflect legitimate use.

That creates a memorable shift: Lamons moved from writing policy without visibility to building governance around how people actually work. The company can protect its data while giving employees room to use AI responsibly, giving executives greater confidence to keep investing.

A partnership built for what comes next

Lamons’ decision to adopt Darktrace / SECURE AI grew from an established relationship with Darktrace. Green describes that relationship as a true business partnership supported by one collective team across sales, technical staff, implementation, and issue resolution.

Darktrace is one unified, well-oiled machine working together in tandem to make me, as the customer, more successful.”
